On September 14th, 2016 Mestek Machinery attended IMTS 2016 in Chicago Illinois. The International Manufacturing Technology Show is an exposition of innovation in the world of manufacturing. It is known as one of the largest trade shows in North America, and this year boasted over 115,000 registrants. The Mestek Machinery team was among the group.

As an industry leader, Mestek Machinery is constantly investigating new technology and innovations. Our priority is increasing productivity for our customers, and investing in technology that would do so. This year, Mestek went to the show in search of a new long bed vertical machining center. The team arrived on Wednesday morning to sunny Chicago with anticipation of another exciting IMTS show. The day was spent in touring the multiple buildings and sightseeing all of the great booths and manufacturing innovation.

On display in the North Building Lobby, was the 3D printed car unveiled at last year’s IMTS show. The car was produced by Oak Ridge National Laboratory and their AMIE project. 3D printing (technically referred to as additive manufacturing) was one of the biggest highlights of the 2016 show. I noticed that several exhibitors featured machines that used 3D printing technology to make specialized, intricate, components for a variety of applications and industries. I found the use additive manufacturing to be a trend among many brands at the show.

The Haas booth was also among the stops that the Mestek team made. The stops were to view the VF-11/50. This ended up being a great fit to fill our need for a long bed vertical machine center. We purchased the Haas machine and it will be installed at the end of October.

All around, the visit to the IMTS 2016 show was considered a great time and successful business opportunity, and we look forward to the next IMTS in 2018.
