HVAC Meets the Challenge of Climate Change – and Goes Further

HVAC is huge. The global HVAC equipment market is expected to exceed $140 billion by 2018, according to authoritative forecasts. And guess what? That’s the exact big number that a dozen American companies have promised in low-carbon investments to support the global Climate Change movement.

Global and huge. That’s HVAC, with statistics to capture as much attention as Climate Change. But so far, HVAC’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning tools are handling the effects of climate with absolutely no reason for controversy, unlike Climate Change. Which is good for everyone involved.

I suppose we could always look for a way to lift HVAC into the headlines, such as changing the meaning of HVAC to “Huge, Vast, And Comprehensive!” But that’s not really necessary. HVAC is succeeding very well without artificial encouragement. Climate Change or No Climate Change, the weather will always be there as a challenge and HVAC with a response, and HVAC will deliver increasingly sophisticated and effective equipment. There’s no need for a headline-grabbing plan.

On the other hand, there will always be a need to showcase the best and most reliable sheet metal forming equipment, whether its function be cutting, beading, bending, roll forming, stiffening, etc. This is especially important if you are a newcomer to HVAC manufacturing and studying the industry closely for the first time.

Just knowing what machine you’ll need is not enough, however.  You will want to develop a realistic and effective business plan.  Factors such as financing, floor space, personnel, and target market (i.e. commercial or residential) are vital. Timing is also going to have a substantial impact on business – demands for one HVAC product over another change dramatically based on the season.

Roto-Die presents HVAC professionals with solutions for all aspects of business. We know the industry and we know the machines; that means we can not only provide you with equipment, but provide some direction on how to get started or expand your business the right way. Here are key examples of what Roto-Die’s machinery alone can deliver:

Bending

Roto-Die’s hydraulic sheet metal benders are regarded as an industry standard in HVAC and metal fabrication shops in the United States. Each sheet metal brake is a versatile, economical, productive tool satisfying a wide range of sheet metal bending and forming needs.

Roll Forming

Roll forming involves the continuous bending of a long strip of sheet metal, typically coiled steel. Roto-Die’s process using the C&S Roll Former is rapid and energy efficient. The strip passes through sets of rolls mounted on consecutive stands, each set performing a unique part of the bend, until the desired cross-section or profile is obtained.

Notching

Notching is a low-cost metal-cutting process. Before rectangular duct sections can be joined and assembled, they must be tooled accurately. The bender will be best for shaping the right angles, but certain parts must have the corners notched first to make the appropriate shape. Unless you’re planning on cutting the sheet by hand, a specialized notcher would be the ideal equipment for the job.

Cleat Bending

Cleats are used to connect two assembled rectangular duct sections and are comprised of two cleat components, S Cleat and Drive Cleat. A cleat bender is designed to make repeated cleat forming easier through a simple two-step process.
